If you are new to quilting, one item you need to add to your list of notions to purchase is thread. Most quilters who use sewing machines choose 50w 100% cotton thread in a neutral color. You should use good quality, such as Aurifil, King Tut, Gutterman, or Sulkey. If you are on a budget, Coats and Clark will work. We have only discussed the thread you should be using for piecing. We will continue our discussion with more information in another article covering sizes, types, and uses for each one.
